In June, new orders for manufactured durable goods were down for the second month in a row, falling 1 percent to $190.5 billion
, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
This follows a 0.8 percent May decrease. Prior to May, new orders had grown for five straight months.
Transportation equipment, which has been down for the last five months, saw the largest decrease at 2.4 percent. This was due to non-defense, aircraft and parts, which contracted by $1.8 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods also fell for the second straight month. They decreased $0.7 billion, or 0.3 percent, to $195 billion. This followed a 0.7 percent drop in May.
Meanwhile, inventories of manufactured durable goods, which have risen the past six months, increased $2.8 billion, or 0.9 percent to $308.2 billion. This follows a 1.1 percent increase in May.
