Dupre Logistics, Lafayette, La., has joined the recently formed Alliance for Driver Safety and Security, a group of trucking companies that is pushing legislation to mandate electronic onboard recorders.


The five founding members of the alliance are Maverick USA, Knight Transportation, J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Schneider National and U.S. Xpress Enterprises. They are pushing for support for the Commercial Driver Compliance Improvement Act, introduced in September U.S. Senators Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) that would require trucking companies engaged in interstate commerce to install electronic on-board recorders in all trucks.

If passed, the legislation will require companies to install an electronic device that is engaged to the truck engine which will identify the driver operating the truck, record a driver's duty status, and is capable of monitoring the location and movement of the vehicle. The legislation calls for using existing technology and devices that are currently in the marketplace and would take effect three years after passage.

"We have consistently worked through industry associations to pass legislation that makes our highways safer. This Alliance focuses on that objective and we are excited to become a member," said Reggie Dupre', CEO of Dupre' Logistics. "The Alliance recently announced its support of Senator Mark Pryor's bill which mandates the use of electronic on board computers for all Class 7 and 8 trucks. This is something Dupre' has utilized for over 6 years and has helped improve our driver compliance and safety."
