Drivewyze and the Texas Department of Public Safety announced that Texas has added Drivewyze PreClear bypass service to the state’s six busiest commercial vehicle weigh stations.

The six stations are:
• Queen City Weigh Station on U.S. Highway 59 northbound (about 23 miles south of Texarkana near the Texas/Arkansas border);
• Penwell weigh stations on U.S. Interstate 20 eastbound and westbound (near mile marker 103 and Odessa, about 50 miles southeast of the New Mexico/Texas border);
• Devine weigh stations on U.S. Interstate 35 northbound and southbound (near mile marker 121, about 5 miles south of Devine and 35 miles southwest of San Antonio);
• New Waverly Weigh Station on U.S. Interstate 45 northbound (near mile marker 101, about 60 miles north of Houston).

The sites went live on Monday, April 28.

Within a month, the Texas Department of Public Safety plans to activate Drivewyze bypass services at 51 additional fixed locations and 17 mobile sites. This will represent the single largest state deployment of weigh station bypass services across the country.

A map with all of the active weigh stations in Texas and across the country is available on the Drivewyze website.

Not only can Drivewyze help the Texas Department of Public Safety keep trucks moving, but it can also save operators time and money, according to the company. An FMCSA study showed a single bypass made for several minutes can save $8.68 in lost time and fuel costs.

Drivewyze uses cellular networks and the Internet to add transponder-like functionality to tablets, smartphones and select electronic on-board recorders. Unlike traditional methods that use dedicated short-range communication transponders in every truck, Drivewyze doesn’t require the installation of additional equipment.

With the addition of the six sites in Texas, Drivewyze PreClear is now available at 297 locations in 22 states. After it’s fully deployed in Texas, Drivewyze PreClear will be available at a total of 365 locations.

The Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass application can be used on Android and iOS-based tablets or smartphones, and is integrated into PeopleNet Blu.2 and Tablet devices, and the Zonar 2020.

Rand McNally and Drivewyze recently announced an agreement to provide the Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass service for Rand McNally’s suite of mobile fleet management devices. Drivewyze PreClear 3.0, the newest version of the weigh station application, comes with Weigh Station Heads Up service for real-time notifications for more than 700 weigh stations and inspection sites nationwide.
