Federal regulators have shut down a 10-truck refrigerated carrier in Clear Lake, IA, as an "imminent hazard to the public."
Vandusseldorp Trucking is charged with allowing drivers to violate hours of service regulations, letting them drive with revoked or suspended licenses, and failing to screen drivers for poor driving records or substance abuse. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has been investigating the company since February, after it received an anonymous tip. Last week the agency declared the fleet's 10 rigs and eight drivers an "imminent hazard to the public" and ordered them off the road.
The company must submit a written plan to FMCSA on how they will address these problems before the agency will consider allowing them to operate again.
This is only the seventh Iowa trucking company to be shut down since 1994.
