Diesel prices rose for the second week in a row, according to weekly figures from the U.S. Department of Energy.
The DOE's Energy Information Administration reported Monday that the average price of retail on-highway diesel was $2.96, up 1.7 cents from the previous week and up 33.8 cents from a year ago. This was the second week in a row prices increased.
The highest average price was reported in the West Coast region, at $3.12 per gallon. THree regions were over the $3 mark -- the Central Atlantic and the Rocky Mountain regions, in addition to the West Coast. The lowest average prices were in the Gulf Coast region at $2.89 per gallon.
Meanwhile, better economic news caused the stock market and oil futures to rise Monday. As the Standard & Poor's 500 Index hit its highest level since May, reports Bloomberg, October crude oil futures ended the day at $74.96 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. November futures ended the session at $76.19.
