Cummins Outlines Global Sustainability Goals
Cummins has pledged both to reduce carbon emissions from its products in-use and to streamline the logistics of the company’s managed freight as part of a global sustainability effort.

Cummins has announced two new sustainability goals, pledging to reduce carbon emissions for its products in-use and to streamline the logistics of the company’s managed freight.
The new goals are part of a broader effort by the company to reduce its environmental footprint after Cummins announced its first Global Environmental Sustainability Plan last year.
Cummins’ first goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by partnering with customers to improve the fuel efficiency of its products in-use. Products in-use make up the largest part of the company’s emissions footprint and the company is pledging an annual reduction of 3.5 million metric tons of CO2 by 2020.
“With millions of engines and generators in service around the world, there’s no question in my mind that Cummins has the global reach to make a difference for the environment,” said Brian Mormino, executive director of worldwide environmental strategy and compliance at Cummins.
The company’s second announced goal is to improve the efficiency of its supply chain. Cummins has adopted a global transportation management system to improve the speed and efficiency of goods moved and to improve end-to-end visibility to manage the process.
The company is adding a goal for CO2 reduction to quantify the environmental benefit of its logistics streamlining and to expand its sustainability efforts globally. The company’s 2014-2015 Sustainability Report is set to be published on May 12 with more details on Cummins’ new goals.
"We view our environmental sustainability plan as a process of continuous improvement," said Mormino. "Cummins will continue to develop more strategies as our efforts mature and set new goals after we meet existing targets. “
