Con-way Truckload Driver Reaches 4 Million Miles
Con-way Truckload is recognizing Jon Smith, an independent contractor, for surpassing 4 million miles of professional driving for the company. Similar to small business owners, independent contractors own or lease their trucking equipment and work as their own bosses.
When asked if he had any words of advice, gleaned from 4 million miles of experience, Smith noted: “Stay ahead of your truck care and maintenance, and keep current on trucking industry and economic news so that you can plan your work in advance and stay flexible.”
To put Smith’s feat in perspective, it would take a person driving 24 hours a day at an average speed of 65 miles per hour, 2,640 days to reach 4 million miles. Smith has averaged more than 133,000 driving miles per year for the past 30 years.
