Chevron has found that its Delo 400 LE SAE 10W-30 heavy-duty engine oil can improve fuel economy by 1 percent over 15W-40 oils and by 0.5 percent over 5W-40 grade synthetic lubricants, according to recent laboratory and field testing
of the oil.
While the oil may have a lower viscosity, it does not lower engine durability, the company says. The company also found that that by using the oil, wear levels and oil drains are similar to those when using 15W-40 motor oils.
The company tested its Delo 400 LE 10W-30 on a number of diesel platforms, including Detroit Diesel DD15, Cummins ISX, Mack MP7 and DAF 12.9 Liter. It was also tested on 2010 engines from Volvo and experienced similar durability and fuel economy results.
The product is made with Chevron's Isosyn technology, which combines highly refined base oils with advanced additives to create products that rival synthetic lubricants in critical performance tests, according to the company.
