The State Route 91 Improvement Project, which began earlier this year, is expected to add a High Occupancy Vehicle lane, modify local overcrossings and undercrossings, and improve traffic flow along an 11-mile corridor stretching from State Route 57 to the Los Angeles County line.
The four-year, $180 million project will affect Anaheim, Buena Park, Cerritos, Fullerton, La Palma and Placentia. Funded primarily by Measure M - a sales tax approved by Orange County voters in 1990 for transportation improvements - is a partnership between the Orange County Transportation Authority and Caltrans.
The 91 freeway is said to be one of the most heavy utilized freeways in Southern California, carrying more than 200,000 motorists daily. The project will also include a public awareness campaign designed to distribute construction-related equipment and minimize the impacts of construction.
