Nov. 17 – Two people were killed and 51 injured in a 74-vehicle chain-reaction crash in the fog Sunday on Highway 99 near Kingsburg, CA.
The crash happened only two days after warnings were issued to drive cautiously as the region’s fog season began. One driver said he could see no more than 5 feet in front of him before the crash.
The mile-long pileup, about 180 miles southeast of San Francisco, closed about 25 miles of southbound highway for nearly 12 hours. Since 1990, 11 people have died in four major fog-related pileups on the highway.
