State transportation officials warn that parts of the eastbound lanes have a rough surface from minor pitting from vehicle fires.
There was amazingly only one fatality from the fiery chain-reaction crash: Jean Larocque, 57, of St.-Chrysostome, Quebec, who was driving a tractor-trailer in the eastbound lanes, according to mlive.com.
Published reports indicate 23 people were sent to area hospitals.
There were 76 semi trucks involved in the pileup, including one loaded with fireworks that exploded spectacularly and injured some firefighters, and one carrying a hazmat load of formic acid. That truck couldn't be moved until the load was drained off into another tanker, which took most of Saturday.
