Thermo King showcased its new SLX trailer refrigeration unit for Europe at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., last week to gauge North American customer interest.

The SLX line was recently launched in Europe and brings customers improved performance, reduced environmental impact and a lower cost of ownership.

The SLX design team significantly upsized the refrigeration components that relate to performance, which means that engine operating speeds have been reduced with no loss in performance. Slower engine speeds give a quieter engine, which uses less fuel and prolongs the life of moving parts to increase reliability.

Reducing fuel consumption was a key concern of the design team, who carefully assessed where savings could be made without compromising performance. Their work has delivered a phenomenal 20 percent reduction over the SL range, which itself is recognized as the benchmark in fuel economy.
