TarpArmor has launched its Fall Protection System, a new line of products to promote safety of refuse employees working on top of garbage trucks.

The new line includes Bi-Line Fall Restraint, safetMount Ladder Assist and Expandable Garbage Gear.

"Workers are safest when their feet are firmly on the ground," said Shannon Harrop, tarpArmor national account director. "The Expandable Garbage Gear tools were designed to make it possible to clean cab shields, tarp loads and perform other jobs from ground level, to reduce the need for operators and maintenance workers to climb onto trucks."

The Expandable Garbage Gear line includes two expandable reaching poles that help operators clean and maintain trucks from the ground. The two poles reach from four to eight feet and from six to 12 feet. They come with two attachments, including the trukBrush, a combination brush and scraper that can be extended, and the tarpTamer, a multifunction hook used to position tarps and secure bungee cords. The trashTong is also included in the line, a five-foot long gripper that can reach loose or bagged trash from hard-to-reach areas.

"But some tasks simply must be performed while on top of the vehicle," Harrop added. "For those occasions, our safeMount Ladder Assist and Bi-Line Fall Restraint enable workers to safely access and work on top of front loaders, side loaders, rear loaders and transfer trailers without the risk of falls."

The Bi-Line Fall Restraint is made up of two parallel restraint lines mounted to the top of the vehicle body, a dual lanyard that holds onto the restraints lines and a belt worn by the worker. At the top of the vehicle, the operator clips the belt into the system using a swivel hook on the lanyard, preventing him from falling. The system can be specified on new vehicles or retrofitted to those already in the field.

The safeMount Ladder Assist acts as a handrail extension that rises over the top of the ladder, giving operators three points of contact as they climb to the top of the vehicle. SafeMount retracts next to the ladder when not in use.
