Qualcomm has added two new services to its Mobile Computing Platform, including Circle of Service Workflow and Premium Wi-Fi Service
. The new Circle of Service Workflow offering will be available on both the Mobile Computing Platform 100 (MCP100) and 200 (MCP200) series, while the Wi-Fi Service will be offered on the MCP200.
The Circle of Service Workflow tool is designed to improve management of load assignments, automate event triggers and pre-fill work process forms. Rather than working through a macro-based circle of service, fleets operate through an intuitive and intelligent user interface. It also reduces training requirements and associated costs, Qualcomm says. The service provides drivers with prompts and exception notifications to reduce drivers' dependence on back-office staff for key information.
"Circle of Service Workflow represents a business model shift for fleets," said Norm Ellis, vice president of transportation and logistics sales and services for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. "Qualcomm is taking full advantage of leading technologies such as our mobile computing platform's touchscreen graphical display to make fleets safer and more efficient. Advances in geoservices and application integration will further enable the development of increasingly powerful services for transportation and logistics companies."
Through a partnership with Wandering WiFi, a provider of wireless infrastructure solutions, Qualcomm will provide its new Wi-Fi service, which will give drivers access to more than 700 Wi-Fi spots at truckstops throughout the U.S. Through the new service, drivers can have unlimited access to Qualcomm's In-can Scanning service over the Wi-Fi network. Carriers can choose between using their own private Wi-Fi networks or Premium Wi-Fi Service to access Wi-Fi spots.
"Enabling drivers to be connected at more locations is critical to our customers and their drivers because it not only improves productivity, but also gives drivers access to a range of information via the Internet," said Ellis. "Our alliance with Wandering WiFi to deliver Qualcomm's Premium Wi-Fi Service provides additional business value to our MCP200 customers, as it allows drivers to use their truck cab as a mobile operations center."
