Peterbilt has rolled out its new Model 348 truck, intended for more rugged applications such as construction, petroleum delivery, refuse and utility.

The interior is built with an "in-mold" color process that imbeds the color permanently into the material, preventing peeling, scratches, scuffs and fading that can occur in harsh operating environments. Peterbilt made this model with an all-new driver display, featuring backlit gauges that are easy to read and ergonomic. The top of the dash displays key vehicle performance data. The model is equipped with a new HVAC system for improved air flow.

The model is available with a range of options and with a GVW starting at 35,000 pounds. Customers can choose between truck or tractor configurations, as well as vocational options such as FEPTO, REPTO and application-specific transmissions including a hybrid configuration designed for utility service.

With its new lowered and slanted side window beltline, the model boasts an overall 17 percent improvement in side window visibility, Peterbilt executives say. Built with an all-aluminum cab, the model is lightweight, fuel efficient and resistant to corrosion, the company says.

In addition, the truck's dash panels are removable, providing easy access to electrical and HVAC components. A new electrical system offers proven multiplex technology that simplifies wiring behind the dash and facilitates troubleshooting.
