Peterbilt Motors Company has added aerodynamic options to its new Model 348, designed to improve the fuel economy and lower emissions.
The Model 348 is intended for more rugged applications like construction, petroleum delivery, trash, and heavier public utility tasks.

The new options include proprietary roof fairings and aerodynamic mirrors, which were designed using Computational Fluid Dynamics testing and development. By redirecting airflow up, over and around the cab, the solutions can lower the truck's aerodynamic drag and result in a reduction of 12 percent fuel consumption over a non-equipped truck.

"Through extensive aerodynamic evaluation, Peterbilt engineers have designed proprietary options to increase the fuel efficiency for the new Model 348," said Landon Sproull, Peterbilt chief engineer. "Peterbilt's new aerodynamic options will increase fuel efficiency and can add up to $5,000 savings to a typical Model 348 customers' bottom line."

The new integral convex aerodynamic mirrors feature a tough, lightweight, chrome plated housing. They are four-way adjustable for vertical and horizontal adjustments. The new roof fairings are made out of advanced composite materials and are lightweight, durable and color-matched, Peterbilt claims.

These solutions are also available for the new Peterbilt Model 337.
