TrucFlo, a service designed to help the intermodal sector meet the new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's chassis inspection requirements, is the result of a partnership between Conmar and MetriTech.
The new requirements affect intermodal equipment providers, terminal operators, motor carriers and drivers operating intermodal equipment.
Under the new regulations, drivers for licensed motor carriers must present a written, signed report on the condition of the chassis they deliver to an intermodal terminal or depot. TrucFlo is a paperless system that uses cell phone technology, so drivers can communicate chassis status electronically. The system analyzes all nine components of chassis conditions outlined by the regulations.
"The TrucFlo solution is based on a simple and easy-to-implement design that allows truck drivers to report the status of an intermodal chassis using only a cell phone," said Joe Palazzolo, joint venture partner. "We wanted to develop a simple system that would not require the purchase of any equipment for users beyond what they already use daily, yet comprehensive enough to meet the new rules."
"We are confident that our approach is designed so that each type of intermodal participant, whether you are a motor carrier, driver, chassis provider or terminal operator, will have an easily-integrated system that meets the new requirements," said Manfred Rietsch, CEO of Conmar.
While the regulations don't require compliance until Dec. 17 of this year, the TrucFlo system is available for registration and subscription starting July 1.
Conmar, which has offices in Glendale, Ariz., and Irvine, Calif., provides software and system solutions to address transportation and logistics problems and challenges. Long Beach, Calif.-based MetriTech offers outsourcing services to the transportation industry.
