Daimler Trucks North America will use Navteq's map to power its RunSmart Predictive Cruise solution in its Cascadia line of trucks.
Using Navteq's map of the U.S. with slope and height data, the RunSmart Predictive Cruise feature automatically sets the truck's speed to minimize fuel consumption.
The integration of the truck's cruise control system with Navteq's data will allow the system to analyze upcoming changes in road terrain and adjust the throttle, increasing fuel efficiency. Navteq's map includes attributes collected by the company's geographic analysts that enable advanced driver assistance systems.
"The accuracy of the road slope information provided by Navteq maps enables RunSmart Predictive Cruise to ease the burden on the truck's engine when traversing challenging terrain," said Elmar Boeckenhoff, vice president of truck product engineering at Daimler.
Navteq's digital maps include information on the direction of travel and slope data for over 200,000 miles of highway in the U.S.
"By tapping into the power of ADAS, Daimler Trucks is leveraging data and technology to drive down fuel consumption to benefit both the physical and fiscal environments," said Bob Denaro, vice president of ADAS at Navteq.
The RunSmart Predictive Cruise feature will be available in the third quarter of 2009.
