Express Brake International has launched the new Xtreme Brake System, which features increased surface contact, better lining wear, improved stopping power, and less rust jacking
, the company says.

According to EBI, the new system distributes heat and shear load over a larger surface area, achieving 100 percent initial surface contact. The system has twice the amount of wear surface area, with 0.62-inch thick web ends. This gets rid of "mushrooming" and improves the durability of the web, EBI says. Heat checks from drum cracking are greatly reduced.

The brake tables are made of stainless steel, rather than mild steel, so there is less potential for rust jacking. Xtreme Brake shoes are built with full seam weld construction, not stitch or spot welded shoes.

EBI boasts lining wear improvement of 30-50 percent through the addition of 26 square inches of surface area on Xtreme. The surface area was obtained by eliminating rivet holes and tapers. Xtreme Brake can also deliver 40 percent more cubic lining material than riveted Q style brakes, EBI says.

Through independent lining tests conducted by Radlinski & Associates, East Liberty, Ohio, the Xtreme Brake System was found to stop 30 feet shorter from 60 mph than riveted brakes using the same brake lining.

Xtreme Brakes are designed to be re-lined right on the wheel end or in a fleet's own shop.
