Dana Adds New Line of Spicer Medium-Duty Axles
Dana has added a new line of Spicer axles, the S140 series single-drive, medium-duty axles

The new axles are 85 pounds lighter and require 32 percent less lubrication, improving fuel economy and reducing maintenance costs.
"Throughout the development of the Spicer S140 Series, we focused our efforts on helping medium-duty fleet managers optimize the productivity of their fleets," said Steve Slesinski, director of product management for the Dana commercial vehicle systems group.
According to the company, the new axles require an initial Roadranger lubrication drain at 250,000 miles. The series provides 23 millimeters of additional ground clearance as well as 240 percent better noise, vibration, and harshness performance over other axles.
Designed for vehicles with drivetrain ratings up to 860 pounds-feet of torque and up to 300 horsepower, the S140 series supports gross combination weight ratings up to 46,000 pounds and typical gross vehicle weight ratings up to 31,000 pounds in most vocational applications.
Other features of the axles include a carrier-integrated parking brake or electromagnetic retarder mount, a wide-track design, a patented axle breather design supplying unrestricted airflow, and integral, welded suspension brackets.
The new axles replace all previous 17,000- to 19,000-pound Spicer drive axles. They are available for all makes and models of straight truck chassis up to 19,000-pound gross axle weight ratings.
