ALK Technologies has unveiled the newest version of its software, PC*Miler 23, a routing and mileage solution that incorporates carbon emissions and intermodal analysis.
The company has also updated its maps with data such as truck restrictions and truck-specific toll costs.
The intermodal analysis functionality calculates alternative rail intermodal routes for truck shipments to run quick comparisons of truck and intermodal mileage, fuel consumption and carbon emissions. At the same time, the software's points of interest database can display small, medium and large intermodal ramps throughout North America.
"ALK is pleased to be the first routing and mileage provider to make environmental impact an optional factor in daily operational choices," said Kara Jo Witkowski, senior product manager for PC*Miler solutions for ALK. "The new features allow carriers, shippers and 3PLs to make better multi-modal decisions."
The new version can provide fleets with a way to minimize out-of-route miles, save time, tolls and fuel, the company says. For example, ALK has expanded capabilities in toll calculation to include tolls determined by weight and truck axles. The software can now calculate weight-based tolls on the specific categories and rates applied by each individual toll authority. Tolls based on axles can be found for single and multiple trailer trucks up to 14 axles. The updated version 23 includes 27 discount toll programs and 68,300 unique toll paths.
Another feature of version 23 is that users can generate a route based on a truck's height, length, width and weight. Specific mileage and directions will be provided, taking those factors into account.
Other enhancements include an additional 117,000 truck restrictions and allowances as well as updated information about dangerous goods classifications throughout Canada.
