Trailer orders increased significantly in June to 26,700 units according to the latest report from FTR.
Junes orders increased 76% over May and were up 32% more year-over-year due to large dry van orders and refrigerated van orders.
Per FTR, dry van orders placed in June were for 2016, and came earlier than usual.
“Vans, both dry and reefer, had a great month,” said Don Ake, FTR vice president of commercial vehicles. “The fact that some fleets are so confident about next year that they placed orders three months early, is a great sign for the industry.”
By contrast, flatbed orders were weaker than usual and both liquid and dry tank markets were slow, which Ake attributed to a softening in the energy industry.
