Volvo Trucks North America has landed a significant first-time U.S. customer. The OEM reported that European-based HayWay Group has launched its North American operations with an order for 80 Volvo VNL 860 sleeper tractors.

The purchase marks HayWay Group’s first deployment of trucks in the United States and represents a major step in the company’s global expansion strategy.

HayWay plans to grow its combined fleet to 1,400 vehicles by 2029, working in partnership with Volvo Trucks and Volvo Financial Services as it builds out long-haul operations in the U.S.

“HayWay Group’s decision to enter the U.S. market with an order of 80 all-new Volvo VNLs is a bold move and a strong signal of confidence in our brand,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America. “The order builds on a long-standing relationship with Volvo Trucks in Europe, and we are proud to partner with HayWay for their U.S. expansion.”

The company has established its U.S. headquarters in Wyoming, with its initial fleet dedicated to long-haul, coast-to-coast operations.

The 80 Volvo VNL 860 sleepers will haul general freight between Southern California and New York for a major online retailer.

Service and support for the fleet will be handled through TEC Equipment – Fontana, Volvo’s largest West Coast dealership group.

According to Volvo, HayWay’s entry aligns closely with the OEM’s strategy of supporting customers expanding into new markets with safety-focused, fuel-efficient equipment backed by a nationwide service network.

“For me personally, this step represents the American Dream in action,” said Artur Lewandowski, CEO of HayWay Group. “We are known for being early adopters of technologies that improve safety and performance, and launching our U.S. operations with the Volvo VNL reflects that mindset.”

Lewandowski added that starting with 80 trucks is a deliberate move toward building a scalable, safe, and sustainable presence in the U.S. market.

VNL Specs Tailored for Long-Haul Efficiency

HayWay worked closely with Volvo Trucks North America to spec its VNL fleet for long-distance, cross-country service while prioritizing driver comfort, safety, and operational efficiency.

Key specifications include:

  • Volvo D13 engine rated at 455 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque

  • 12-speed I-Shift automated manual transmission with Eco-Roll and I-See predictive cruise control

  • Volvo Active Driver Assist Plus (VADA Plus) safety package, focusing on collision mitigation, driver alerts, and steering support

  • Integrated parking cooler and heater, supported by a six-battery high-level battery management system, allowing drivers to maintain comfort during rest periods without idling

According to Volvo, the VNL 860 sleeper configuration reflects HayWay’s focus on driver recruitment and retention -- an increasingly important factor for long-haul fleets operating in a tight labor market.
