The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree tour began November 1 with a celebration at the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City. Along the nearly 3,000-mile route, communities will have opportunities to view the 53-foot red fir — nicknamed “Silver Belle" — sign banners attached to the trailer, and learn about Nevada’s national forests.
The tree will arrive at the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on November 20.
Kenworth T680 Features and Equipment
The specially decaled Kenworth T680 used for this year’s haul is equipped with a 76-inch sleeper and the Paccar Powertrain, including the Paccar MX-13 engine, TX-12 automated transmission, and DX-40 tandem rear axles.
The interior features a Diamond VIT design with modern driver comforts such as heated and cooled GT703 Ultraleather seats, a refrigerator, rotating work table, and space for a microwave and TV.
The T680 also includes the latest driver-assistance systems: Kenworth’s DigitalVision Mirrors, Bendix Fusion Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Auto Go, and Lane Keeping Assist with torque-assisted steering.
For the second year, Kenworth’s TruckTech+ connected truck technology provides real-time GPS tracking of the tree’s route. The public can follow the journey through an interactive map on the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree website.
Who's Hauling the Capitol Christmas Tree
Knight-Swift Transportation was selected as this year’s hauler at Kenworth’s recommendation. Swift Transportation driver Michael Porter, based in Phoenix, Arizona, is behind the wheel for the cross-country trip. Southwest Airlines is transporting thousands of handmade ornaments crafted by Nevada residents.
