Close to 14,000 Kenworth trucks are subject to a safety recall because there have been problems with the digital dash display suddenly going into blue-screen recovery mode, leaving the driver without a speedometer or other gauges or indicators.
Paccar is recalling 13,908 2024-2026 Kenworth T680, T880, and W990 trucks because the 15-inch digital display may enter recovery mode (blue screen) without prior indication. The screen is non-responsive and may reset after a key cycle or reprogramming.
Because of a loss of speedometer and other functionality such as warnings, indicators, and gauges, the driver will not know the truck speed or the warnings that appear on the digital display. A loss of information on the digital display may increase the risk of a crash.
The problem is caused by a display graphics processing unit (GPU) overload. It can happen on Kenworth trucks with the EMUX (Ethernet Multiplexed Architecture) electrical system with 15-inch digital displays that do not have a custom gauge enabled on the dashboard from the factory.
On March 5, all Paccar factories began manually setting a custom “favorite” gauge to avoid the GPU overload that leads to the recovery mode (blue screen).
The recall specifically affects:
Kenworth T680, 2024-2026, produced May 22, 2023-March 4, 2025; 5641 potentially affected
Kenworth T880, 2024-2026, May 23, 2023-March 4, 2025; 7,625 potentially involved
Kenworth W990, 2024-2026, produced May 25, 2023 - Feb 28, 2025; 642 potentially affected.
Although 13,908 vehicles are potentially involved, only 1% are estimated to have the defect, according to the recall report.
As of August 8, 2025, Paccar had received 173 warranty claims and six reports about 158 trucks in the field that may be related to the problem between September 2024 and April 2025. However, no reports of deaths or injuries have been received.
Dealers will update the vehicle display software, free of charge.
The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Kenworth's customer service at 1-425-828-5888. Paccar’s number for this recall is 25PACG.
