As part of the Fleet Safety Experience, an all-virtual companion to the Fleet Safety Conference, Heavy Duty Trucking named Adam Lang, chief risk officer with Halvor Lines, as its 2020 Safety & Compliance award winner.

Lang win was announced during the introduction to a session on his safety program and how his background in human resources has helped him handle training and onboarding his new and current drivers during the age of COVID-19.

“It’s huge honor to accept the 2020 HDT Safety and Compliance award,” said Lang while beginning his session.

Previously, Lang had worked in the human services industry for close to a decade, working with adults with serious and persistent mental illness and traumatic brain injuries. From there, he made the move to trucking. Lang joined Halvor Lines in 2012 as director of human resources, became director of risk management in 2014, and was promoted to the chief risk office two years later.

“Moving to the trucking industry was quite a big change, but once I came into it, I found that I was a natural fit, and I absolutely love this industry,” he added.

Lang was chosen after being nominated by Jeremy Stickling, chief administrative officer at Nussbaum Transportation Services and winner of the inaugural HDT Safety & Compliance Award in 2015.

“Adam impressed us with his passion on topics such as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Crash Preventability Determination program, the new drug and alcohol clearinghouse, and the nuclear verdicts issue,” said HDT Editor-in-Chief Deborah Lockridge. “In the midst of a pandemic, he worked with technology companies to develop a more streamlined and COVID-safe driver onboarding and orientation process, and has re-launched the company’s CDL training program.”
