The total reported volume of Class 8 truck sales in April remained nearly unchanged month to month but were up 1% to 2,806 units, according the latest report by ACT Research.

Despite the flat numbers, ACT said sales beat expectations, thanks to an increased contribution from retail dealers. Sales from auctions and wholesale both fell in April, by 16% and 8% respectively.
“The strength came solely on the backs of retail dealers, who added 5% month over month,” said Steve Tam, vice president of commercial vehicle sector with ACT.
Price appreciation rose by 2% compared to March, thanks to used vehicles having equivalent mileage and a slight reduction in age, to a new record of $49,800.
All numbers were based on ACT’s State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks. The report provides data on average selling price, miles and age based on a representative sampling of the industry.
