Used Class 8 volumes in August fell slightly from July but gained compared with last year’s numbers, according to the latest report from ACT Research.

Sales remain strong and are in line with expectations, but prices have adjusted downward to compensate for the market, according to ACT.

Compared to July, August volumes fell 7% but were up 2% year-over-year while average mileage decreased 3% and 5% respectively.

The average age of used trucks also decreased in August, dropping to 91 months and average prices slipped 1% compared with this time last year as well as 2% from July.

“Volumes in the retail market posted weaker numbers in August, down 4% month-to-month,” said Steve Tam, ACT’s vice president, commercial vehicle sector. “Auction and wholesale markets continued their downward tracks, decreasing 3% and 17%, respectively.”
