Truckers in Chile Call off Blockades
Truckers in Chile yesterday called off fuel price protests after three days of blocking highways, agreeing to enter into talks with the government.

Waving flags and honking horns, truckers abandoned the blockades and headed into the city centers in ''victory'' parades, according to published reports.
The truckers' actions sparked fears of shortages of food and fuel, and the government offered yesterday to negotiate if truckers would stop blocking roads. Government officials had previously refused to talk with the truckers. They insist that the government has not made any concessions to the strikers.
According to the Confederation of Truck Owners, approximately 7,500 truckers too, part in the protest, demanding a 50 percent cut in the truckers' diesel tax, a national registry of cargo vehicles, and government guarantees of truck loans.
