Joel Shorey, a driver for Smithway Motor Xpress, Fort Dodge, Iowa, recently received an award from the Colorado Independent Publisher's Association for his book, "Bullies Behind The Wheel: How Your Reactions to Aggressive Drivers Can Cause Road Rage or Prevent It."
This book takes a humorous look at the problems created by Cut-Off Kings, Merging Maniacs and Executroids. You'll learn what Young Studs and other Aggressive Drives will do before they can involve you.
“When asked why I use humor for such a serious topic, I point out that authors like Mark Twain and Will Rogers were masters at using satire to make important points,” the author says. “I believe a sense of humor is critical in dealing with aggressive drivers."
A driver for 13 years, Shorey has logged more than 2 million miles of accident and ticket-free driving. But he wasn't always a trucker. After 10 years in corporate management, sales and finance, Shorey started a successful real estate investment company in Denver in the 1970s. After the real estate market dried up in the 1980s, he worked without satisfaction as a financial planner.
While looking for the right opportunity, Shorey started driving a tractor-trailer over the road. He found the income better than expected and, being self-employed once again (this time with no employees to worry about), the lifestyle suited him.
He reads with a passion (more than 10,000 books, including audio books), which inspired him to write this book and share his solutions for preventing Road Rage.
Shorey's goal is to change attitudes about aggressive driving by using humor to present this very serious subject matter. Each chapter begins with a short story that helps to illustrate the type of driver being discussed, and concludes with a simple suggestion to potentially avoid a road bully, or an accident.
“Bullies Behind The Wheel” may be ordered by calling (866) DRIVE35 or at www.bulliesbehindthewheel.com. It is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other bookstores for $14.95. An audio version is available for $19.95.
