TA Services, the third-party logistics and brokerage division of PS Logistics, has acquired certain assets of Celadon Logistics from Celadon Group.

Celadon decided to sell off its logistics division as part of the company's efforts to reduce debts and streamline its business. Celadon Logistics is a non-asset-based brokerage and 3PL provider that offers non-asset transportation, supply chain and warehousing solutions. Celadon Logistics currently operates four logistics offices and 11 warehouses across seven states with over 500 employees.

Jon Russell, Celadon Logistics president and chief operating officer and former president of logistics, will remain a member of the company's senior management team, while serving as a consultant to TA Services through the transition process. Post-transition, Russell is expected to become part of the TA Services management team.

"The sale of Logistics marks another important milestone in executing our strategic plan to simplify our business and reduce debt,” said Paul Svindland, Celadon CEO, in the announcement. “Over the past several quarters, we have divested the former quality business, the joint venture with Element, our flatbed business, our West Coast dedicated business, A&S/Buckler, and now Logistics.... Celadon has returned to its roots as an asset-based truckload carrier serving the North American market, with particular focus on the eastern half of the United States and cross border traffic with Mexico and Canada.”

The acquisition expands TA Services’ brokerage and 3PL capabilities, provides exposure to new customer bases and, with minimal customer overlap, grows the consolidated company’s total  markets. The businesses will continue to operate separately during the integration process, which is expected to take six months. Afterwards, all operations will be branded as TA Services.

“We look forward to welcoming the entire Celadon Logistics team to our TA family,” said Scott Schell, president and CEO of TA Services, who will lead the merged organization. “Together with Celadon Logistics’ experienced team and expanded service offerings, we are positioned to be the one-stop solution for addressing all of our customers’ transportation needs.”
