A violent truckers strike in South Africa ended Tuesday with a settlement between the Road Freight Employers' Association and the five unions.
The strike started on Feb. 26 and involved 35,000 truck drivers.
Last week, striking truckers staged violent protests in Johannesburg, attacking working trucks and fighting police. Police arrested 29 demonstrators. Elsewhere, security guards shot four truckers among the 150 or so who stormed the gates of Cargo Carriers in the Vaal Rand area last Friday.
South African news sources said there was a run on gas that left some gas stations in the country without fuel.
The strike ended with a 7 percent across the board pay increase for drivers.
