Daimler Trucks North America is now offering a SmartValve option on Freightliner trucks that is designed to make drop-and-hook operations faster and safer.
Customers can specify the Hadley SmartValve, replacing the standard leveling valve in new Freightliner trucks. It is designed to reduce back strain and prevent injuries for drivers when cranking the trailer’s landing gear.

SmartValve raises and lowers a tractor’s chassis to match that of the trailer’s upper coupler and kingpin, and allows drivers to crank landing gear without having to work against the weight of the trailer.
DTNA said that there was a demand from customers to add a SmartValve option since it was introduced in 2013. When ordering a vehicle, customers can spec a vehicle with the device by using Data Code 888-082.
“The Hadley SmartValve was developed to enhance driver comfort and safety”, said Jim Green, President of Hadley. “For the fleet owners, the cost savings and driver satisfaction are an added bonus. We are excited to see the SmartValve now accessible to even more drivers and fleets.”
