The eastern United States can now choose Schneider National for intermodal service, with Schneider's new Eastern Core Intermodal Service.
Intermodal service costs less than traditional van and truckload transport while maintaining the same convenience and timeliness, Schneider says. Schneider has chosen CSX International as its intermodal carrier for the East.

"In the last three years, we've been able to take out 50 percent of the time from when a shipment arrives at our terminals, or the train arrives, and the time that we have it grounded and notified," said CSXI president Jim Hertwig during a recent webinar.

"Since Schneider has chosen CSX Intermodal as our exclusive Eastern Core intermodal carrier, we're able to leverage the strength of their network to provide shippers in these traditionally hard-to-serve markets with a cost-effective regional transportation solution," said Bill Matheson, president of Schneider's intermodal division.

According to Schneider, railroads are moving freight more quickly, and CSXI has made changes that have improved terminal fluidity. Schneider has also reduced transit times through its priority placement on CSXI trains with a strong network of power lanes connecting major regional hubs. "Schneider Intermodal will move freight from Chicago or the Northeast to Florida in three days or less," Matheson said. "Going from St. Louis to the Northeast? That'll take just two."

Schneider says its service offers more reliability and control with its company-owned containers and company-employed dray. The service also allows shippers to monitor their door-to-door service, so they can know the location of shipments in real time. Schneider says intermodal has the added benefit of avoiding fuel price jumps, while implementing sustainable alternatives to shipping.

"We have seen an increased interest in customers looking at transportation as a way they can help their company become more eco-friendly," Matheson said. "Our intermodal solution is an opportunity for Schneider to offer further resources to help our shippers meet their sustainability needs while cutting costs at the same time."

Schneider National provides transportation and logistics services. The company calls itself the nation's largest truckload carrier.
