The Nebraska State Patrol and the Omaha Police Dept., conducted surprise inspections last week in Omaha.
The inspections targeted commercial vehicles that might not travel outside the city or pass through weigh stations as part of their regular routes.
According to a State Patrol announcement, the Metropolitan Aggressive and Preventive Selective Team conducted 102 inspections, discovered 327 violations, and took 40 vehicles out of service.
Vehicles are placed out of service for violations relating to bad brakes or tires or other problems that pose immediate safety risks. Two drivers were taken out of service for Driving Under Suspension. Officers issued a total of $23,584 in fines.
“The MAPS Team ensures truck operators who rarely leave the city limits are maintaining their vehicles and abiding by safety regulations,” said Colonel Tom Nesbitt, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol.
According to the State Patrol, similar inspections have been conducted in Lincoln, Fremont, South Sioux City, Norfolk, Grand Island, Columbus, Scottsbluff/Gering and Sarpy County, this year.
More surprise inspections are planned in cities and towns across Nebraska.
