FPInnovations’ Performance Innovation Transport group, a not-for-profit engineering and research center for the North American trucking industry, will host its biannual Energotest event at the Transport Canada test track operated by PMG Technologies in Blainville, Quebec, Sept. 11 to 19.
PIT Group to Host Fuel Consumption Test
Evaluations to include fuel consumption comparisons between North American and European truck models
The event will feature fuel consumption tests comparing North American and European trucks, and evaluations of trailer side skirts and other new and unique products.
“We created the Energotest to provide accurate and indisputable results on the economic and environmental impact of green fleet technologies,” said Yves Provencher, director of PIT. “Suppliers come to the Energotest for independent verification of their technology’s performance. Fleet managers who are early adopters of green technologies attend the event to find solutions they can use to transport goods in an environmentally friendly and cost efficient manner.”
PIT uses leading-edge technology and infrastructure, combined with the most stringent testing protocols, to guarantee the highest reliability in its test results. For the fall Energotest, PIT will conduct SAE J1526 Type III fuel consumption tests to compare North American Volvo VNL 630 XE to European Volvo Globetrotter tractors.
At the spring 2013 Energotest, about 300 attendees were on hand to witness a variety of tests, and to hear remarks by fleets on how PIT made a difference in their operations and from suppliers on how reliable tests have boosted their sales. Attendees also viewed exhibits of products tested at Energotest from 16 suppliers of trucking equipment.
As the benchmark for testing services in both Canada and U.S., PIT is the organization chosen by Environment Canada to conduct testing of green transportation technologies. Recently, Canada Economic Development contributed $800,000 to PIT for acquiring cutting-edge testing equipment.
