The president of Yellow Transportation is retiring, and his former boss is stepping in to replace him.
According to published reports in the Kansas City Star and Bloomberg News, Maynar Skarka is retiring as president of less-than-truckload carrier Yellow Transportation, a division of YRC Worldwide's YRC North American Transportation Division. Skarka is 55 years old and has been with Yellow since 1982. Michael Smid, president and CEO of YRC's North American Transportation Division, will also take on the role of Yellow Transportation president.
Part of the reason, according to the Star, is that Smid has been involved with operational changes in the works at Yellow as a result of a new labor agreement. Smid taking on Skarka's job will help minimize disruptions.
Bloomberg notes that the move follows job cuts and terminal closures announced in February in an effort to "stem losses and restore revenue growth."
