Mack Trucks and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing today announced a multi-year agreement designating Mack as the “Official Hauler of NASCAR.” Mack made its announcement during NASCAR’s Daytona 500 media day event in Daytona Beach.
As part of the agreement, Mack provided 11 Pinnacle axle-forward and axle-back sleeper-cab tractors to pull special semitrailers carrying supplies and equipment to the race venues. They are operated by drivers from NASCAR's transportation arm.
"We look at it as another platform to communicate and demonstrate the value of Mack, particularly the highway side, to the public," said John Walsh, the builder’s vice president of marketing. "Trucking industry decision makers and truck drivers are part of that audience. The audience is in the millions, when you look at the race days themselves, and add in those watching the telecasts.
“Mack and NASCAR are two fundamentally American brands," he added, making the partnership a natural one. Mack and NASCAR are not disclosing financial arrangements or the length of the agreement.
“The Mack Trucks brand has been a part of American culture for more than a century and is globally recognized for manufacturing a best-in-class product,” said Steve Phelps, NASCAR executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “The custom-designed Pinnacle models are masterfully engineered and we are proud that they will lead the NASCAR convoy to the track each race weekend.”
Throughout this year's 10-month, 36-race season, the haulers will travel thousands of miles among race locations, delivering tons of critical technology and equipment to help ensure a successful race weekend, Mack and NASCAR said. The fleet’s inaugural trip was to the Daytona International Speedway in Florida for the 500-mile race this coming Sunday.
Equipment in the Pinnacle tractors include 505-hp 12.8-liter MP8 diesels, mDrive 12-speed automated transmissions, and GuardDog Connect diagnostic and telematics systems. Like all Mack trucks sold in North America, the Pinnacles were assembled at the company’s Macungie, Pa., plant.
Support for the NASCAR Mack fleet will be led by Transource Truck & Trailer Center, a Mack dealer with seven locations across North Carolina. Mack partnered with Transource in providing the trucks.
