Landstar System Inc. and Navistar International are helping truckers focus on safety by awarding Landstar drivers the chance to win a new 9400 Eagle.
Robert Fields of Edmonton, KY, took the top prize in the 1997 contest, winning the new truck on his 60th birthday. Field’s name was drawn randomly from a pool of more than 6,500 eligible owner-operators.
To be eligible for the contest, Landstar drivers must be accident and cargo claim-free. Fields exceeds the standard safety requirements — he has driven for Landstar Ranger for more than 11 years and recently received his 10-year safety award.
Valued at more than $100,000, the 1997 9400 Eagle features a 72-inch Hi-Rise Pro Sleeper, Cummins 525E Celect engine, Goodyear tires, Rockwell-Wabco antilock brakes and an Eaton Fuller 18-speed manual transmission.
“Landstar has a strong commitment to safety, and we are proud to help reward their drivers. We will be continuing the tradition by giving away another truck at the 1998 Landstar convention,” said John R. Horne, Navistar chairman, president and CEO.
The 1998 Landstar/International Truck Giveaway will award one driver a 1998 9400 Eagle premium conventional with the new 72-inch Sky-Rise Pro Sleeper. All active independent contractors under permanent lease to a Landstar System company on Sept. 1, 1997 are eligible. To be eligible to win the grand prize, the driver must be active with a Landstar company on the date of the drawing and be accident- and claim-free.
About 6,500 active Landstar owner-operators will receive a contest announcement and must return them by Dec. 31, 1997. In addition, all 1997 Landstar Roadstars and Roadstars from previous years who meet the above qualification swill receive an additional 10 entries each.
