Landstar System has purchased Premier Logistics and A3 Intregation, supply chain transportation integration companies.
Both companies will operate as separate subsidiaries of Landstar Supply Chain Solutions, a newly formed company to be headed by Jim Handoush, president of Landstar Global Logistics.

"These two technology-based acquisitions immediately position Landstar as a premier supply chain solutions provider for small and large customers alike in a software-as-a-service environment," said Henry Gerkens, Landstar president and CEO. "Additionally, our third-party capacity should benefit from increased loading opportunities created through this new service offering."

Detroit-based Premier will continue to provide freight management services through its web-based software, under the leadership of Scott Taylor as president. Taylor founded National Logistics Management, a subsidiary of Premier, in 1989.

A3i, which is based in Ann Arbor, Mich., will focus on the order-to-cash process through its Web-based transportation and supply chain management technologies. A3i provides shipment optimization, carrier visibility and supply chain event management. The unit will continue operations under the leadership of President Lorne Darnell, one of the principal officers and founders of the company.

"Scott Taylor and Lorne Darnell bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to Landstar and I am very pleased to have them join Landstar's management team," said Gerkens.

Landstar's costs related to these acquisitions, which accounted for about $2 million, will be reflected in the company's second quarter 2009 income statement. The company expects that the acquisitions will not have a material effect on its revenue and earnings for the third and fourth quarters of 2009.
