Adam Carr of Tampa, Fla., and Vijeyta Revankar of Seabrook, Texas, were chosen as the winners of the "Be Ready, Be Buckled" student safety belt poster contest, according to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood's blog.
The contest is sponsored by the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Belt Partnership, which includes the Department of Transportation (DOT), the American Trucking Associations (ATA) and other safety partners.
Anne Ferro, administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, was on hand in Washington, D.C., to congratulate the two.
As part of the competition, students submitted posters that emphasize the importance of safety belt use among truck and bus drivers. The posters were judged in two different age categories-kindergarten through second grade, which Vijeyta won; and third through six grades, which Adam won.
The winners received a $100 savings bond sponsored by the ATA and the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, LaHood said in his blog.
In 2003, the Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Safety Belt Partnership was created to combat low safety belt use among the nation's CMV drivers.
