The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has published a notice in the Federal Register seeking comments on allowing another Mexico-based carrier in the long haul cross-border pilot program.

The public has until May 6 to present their views about RAM Trucking SA de CV’s possible participation, after the agency gave it a passing grade on its Pre-Authorization Safety Audit. The carrier is looking to get permission for just one driver and one truck to run in the program.

Since the program was announced nearly two years ago this summer with the first truck crossing in October 2011, 10 Mexican carriers have been granted operating authority by FMCSA, making more than 2,500 moves into the U.S. beyond the commercial trading zone where most Mexican trucks are prohibited from traveling beyond. Two carriers recently were rejected.

Another four Mexican carriers have their Pre-Authorization Safety Audit as pending. One other, Servicio de Transporte Internacional Y Local Sa De CV, has passed, but has not yet received operating authority.
