FMCSA Directs Retesting of Certain Tankers
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued a safety advisory to owners and operators of certain cargo tanks that were improperly inspected and tested, and warned that the tanks must be re-inspected and retested before being used in hazardous materials hauling.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued a safety advisory to owners and operators of certain cargo tanks that were improperly inspected and tested, and warned that the tanks must be re-inspected and retested before being used in hazardous materials hauling.
The tanks in question were tested from April 2011 through March 2016 by two Alabama companies: H&W Tank Testing (CT#8083), Ohatchee, and Christopher Humphries (CT#13131), Jacksonville.
Cargo tanks that were inspected and/or tested by either company must be re-inspected and/or retested immediately by a cargo tank facility registered with FMCSA.
Owners and operators must immediately provide FMCSA with documentation that the required inspections and testing have been performed for all of the affected cargo tank motor vehicles.
"It is a violation of the Federal Hazardous Materials Regulations to use these cargo tank motor vehicles for transportation of hazardous materials before they have been properly re-inspected and retested by an FMCSA-registered cargo tank facility," FMCSA said in a statement.
The full safety advisory, including the entire list of documentation requirements, is posted online here.
Owners and operators with questions should contact FMCSA’s Hazardous Materials Division at fmcsa.cargotank@dot.gov.
