KATU Channel 2 in Portland, Ore., reported Wednesday that truck driver Ventura Miriam Pineda Lainez, 41, of Santa Maria, Calif., died Tuesday of injuries sustained when he fell or jumped from his moving truck
on Interstate 5 in Canyonville, Ore.
The report did not identify the trucking company, but said the truck was pulling a loaded trailer when it began descending a grade headed northbound.
Witnesses could not say for sure if the driver fell or jumped from the truck, which continued for half a mile with no one at the wheel until it crashed.
Lainez was not struck by any other vehicles; he was flown to a Portland hospital, where he died of his injuries.
