The average price of diesel fuel fell 2 cents this week to $2.201, according to the weekly report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.


That price is $1.976 lower than it was a year ago. The highest average prices were reported in the New England region at $2.395; the lowest in the Midwest region, which fell 2.4 cents to $2.142 per gallon.

Diesel currently is 15.2 cents higher than gasoline, which is averaging $2.049 per gallon. Last year at this time, diesel was 57.4 cents per gallon more expensive than gasoline, notes the American Trucking Associations' Economic & Statistics Group.

Meanwhile, oil price dropped to just over $50 a barrel Monday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, as worries about a possible swine flu pandemic pushed down crude oil futures as well as stocks in general.
