A partnership that began nearly 40 years ago between two Canadian companies reached a milestone Thursday when Consolidated Fastfrate opened a 100,000-square-foot cross-dock and warehouse facility
next to Canadian Pacific Railway's (CPR) Calgary Intermodal location.
"The addition of this new facility takes our relationship with CPR to an important new level," said Ron Tepper, president and chief executive officer of Consolidated Fastfrate. "This new facility helps us meet all our clients' logistics needs with a full menu of services, including short-term storage and inventory management, warehousing, distribution, transloading and less-than-truckload shipping anywhere in North America."
Consolidated Fastfrate is among the largest less-than-truckload (LTL) consolidators in Canada. It gathers small shipments from its customers and combines them into full trailer loads to provide economies of scale that reduce shipping costs. The trailers are loaded on CPR trains at intermodal rail facilities and shipped to their destination city where the shipments are deconsolidated and moved by road to their final destination.
CPR is the exclusive rail carrier for Consolidated Fastfrate. Today, Consolidated Fastfrate has more than 1,200 employees and transports in excess of 2.6 million tons of freight each year.
Operations at the new facility will add at least 30 jobs to the workforce of 90 currently employed by Consolidated Fastfrate in Calgary. The new facility has 81 shipping doors and comprises both warehouse and office space.
