Several companies affiliated with Cold Carriers, including Sunco Trucking, Interide Transport, and Gantt Trucking, have also filed for protection in the bankruptcy court for the Middle District of Florida.
A recent post on Cold Carriers’ and some of its affiliates’ Facebook pages indicates that in a conference call for employees, the company stated that it was still open for business.
Cold Carriers was created when parent company KJM Capital purchased several refrigerated carriers and consolidated them under the Cold Carriers name, operating a fleet of 450 trucks and 700 trailers, according to published reports.
As recently as last year, Cold Carriers was looking to expand its footprint through further acquisitions and the company had brought on former Swift executive Randy Savoy as its chief operating officer to head the initiative.
Cold Carriers joins a host of high-profile trucking company bankruptcies in the past few years, including New England Motor Freight, Falcon Transport and LME Inc.
