Heavy truck demand in China fell in the fourth quarter due to continuing construction market weakness, and growth in consumer spending supported increased road freight transportation.
Heavy-duty tractor sales declined, but medium duty truck demand exceeded expectations, according to China Commercial Vehicle Outlook. The report is jointly published quarterly by ACT Researchand SIC, China's State Information Center. It includes an overview of the China economy and a review and forecast of China's heavy- and medium-duty truck and bus markets, as well as analysis of OEM market shares within China.
"Two major factors impacting China were the slowdowns in both real estate and infrastructure investments," says Frank Maly, director of CV transportation analysis and research at ACT. "Both had a negative impact on construction/engineering heavy truck demand. Some improvement is projected for federal and local infrastructure spending, which will help support the heavy truck market in the near term."
SIC is affiliated with the National Development and Reform Commission of China and is engaged in research on the macro-economy, key industries and information technology.
