Canada’s largest trucking business organization has endorsed mandatory “black boxes” in Canadian trucks.

On its web site, the Canadian Trucking Alliance says it is calling for the immediate adoption of draft regulations for a new federal regulation and national standard governing truck driver hours of service approved last year by the Council of Ministers Responsible for Transportation & Highway Safety.
In what the group calls “a landmark decision,” the alliance is calling for the mandatory use of electronic on-board recording technology.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance, the Canadian counterpart of the American Trucking Associations, has more than 4,500 member companies across the country.
It has been widely reported, though without attribution, that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in the U.S. will require service recorders when it releases a revised hours of service regulation.
