Canada is working on national safety standards and certification for the trucking industry.

According to the online version of the Journal of Commerce, the proposed system would end the requirement that carriers be certified as safe in each of the 10 provinces and three territories they operate in.
Approval of a carrier in one jurisdiction would mean approval in all, reducing a lot of regulatory burden on carriers.
The program will be based on National Safety Code standards already developed by federal, provincial and territorial governments, with industry and interest groups, through their Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators.
Provinces are already operating by the standards.
